Since 2001 I have been working in a variety of Oracle University roles, originally for the BeLux organization, then EMEA and now globally. I have had local and remote managers and had the opportunity to represent Oracle (employer side) at the CPBW (Comité voor preventie en bescherming op het werk). Over time I have seen Oracle change dramatically from a country oriented organization with strong local decision powers, into a global organization where the local context has become less and less important to more and more people. On top, many of us work from home/remotely almost 100% of the time and so it is easy to forget that our employee contract still is a contract governed by Belgian laws, that our benefits and other packages are still a local Belgian matter, and that it is therefore important to have efficient employee representation, locally as that is where this function sits, but with the global context in mind because that is where the actual decisions are made. Our colleagues at ACV-Puls have done a great job representing all of us over the last years and it would be my honor to continue this excellent work with them, bringing in a focus of the needs and requirements of the many that have daily connections with hundreds of people through zoom, but that get asked if they are new when they come to a social event in the Vilvoorde office.
